ABOUT HIGH RIVER
High River is a charming town in Southern Alberta, with a population of around 13,000. High River gets its name from the Highwood River, which flows through the town. It is located just 23 miles south of Calgary, making it easily commutable to the city but giving enough distance to be away from the hustle and bustle. High River is often used for filming and was used as a set for Smallville, Superman III and more recently, Fargo and the popular TV series Heartland.
TRAILS, LAKES & GOLFING
High River also has many km of paved trails which incorporate 17+km of Happy Trails for walking and biking, an indoor pool, curling rink, two skating rinks, an outdoor rink, plus skating and fishing at Emerson Lake and Sunshine Lake. You can also enjoy three good quality tennis courts, a well- equipped gym, children’s water park, and numerous soccer fields and baseball diamonds. Golfers are impressed by the mature course at The Highwood Golf & Country Club.
SHEPPARD FAMILY PARK
You will also find Sheppard Family Park, a historical park that celebrates High River history, especially the 1880's to 1920's. Located at the entrance of the community of Montrose.
GEORGE LANE MEMORIAL PARK
The beautiful George Lane Memorial Park and Campground is close to downtown and by the Highwood River, which is a wonderful retreat for swimming, fishing and relaxing.
